Stories shine light on Black family’s contributions

(Dayton, OH - Dayton Daily News) - In 1802, a year before Ohio was admitted into the Union and three years before Dayton was incorporated as a village, John Issac Davis, a slave in Kentucky, ran away with his infant daughter, Charity, and settled in the area that became the city of Dayton in 1841. Patricia Smith Griffin is one of many descendants who grew up with the stories passed down by Charity to the 12th generation.
