The Legacy of Charity's Children Wins Best Nonfiction Podcast at 2024 Miami Web Fest




(MIAMI, FL, May 8, 2024) - The Legacy of Charity's Children, a podcast series chronicling the lives of early Ohio settlers and their descendants, has won Best Nonfiction Podcast at the prestigious Miami Web Fest. The culminating event of the festival was the Charity Awards Gala, hosted by Isabel Ana Hume of WSFL-TV channel 39 program “Inside South Florida”. 


Celebrity guests included director Lilo Vilaplana, producer Vicky Contreras, actor Tony Garza, and musician Tony Succar. The gala took place on Sunday, May 5th, at the Sandbox Stage, a speakeasy-style concert venue. The headliner of the awards gala was MENUDO, the popular boy band whose original members included Ricky Martin.


Miami Web Fest, known as the Film Festival for Web Series, showcases the hottest new web series content from around the world. The event creates a work-play environment, attracting Miami’s vast and multicultural community of arts enthusiasts. It serves as a "window into the future" of new media, allowing the general public to see independently produced shows before they are discovered by big television networks and media entities.

"This award is particularly poignant in a state where the controversial laws surrounding how Black history is taught in schools is still under contentious debate. The primary goal of Charity's Children Project is to preserve legacies, and that is what we are doing with our podcast."

Winner of the prestigious 2023 Roadmap Writers Podcast Competition for Best Narrative Audio, The Legacy of Charity's Children explores the generational journey of the Davis/Broady family through family archives, oral history, and historical records. Selected for the prestigious 2023 Urban Mediamakers Film Festival, the podcast series has garnered acclaim for its insightful storytelling and historical significance.
